In this comprehensive study around advancing gradient echo MR imaging and its translational clinical applications, we have 1) investigated the biophysical mechanism behind signal phase contrast of brain tissue; 2) applied our theoretical framework "Generalized Lotentzian Approach" to better understand phase contrast evolution in Multiple Sclerosis lesions; 3) proposed novel contrasts based on technique of gradient echo plural contrast imaging (GEPCI); 4) evaluated the benefits of quantitative T2* map in monitoring disease of Multiple Sclerosis both in white matter and in grey matter as compared to clinical standard techniques; 5) explored the application of oxygen enhanced MRI in the assessment of placental insufficiency.
