Jim Beckett, Global Vice President of Philips Healthcare, led a delegation to visit the Center for Biomedical Imaging Research of Tsinghua University (CBIR) and signed a formal cooperation agreement with School of Medicine at Tsinghua University on January 19. Professor Chun Yuan and Associate Professor Rui Li hosted the signing ceremony. Director Jun Ma from the Overseas projects department at Tsinghua and Jim Beckett signed the agreement jointly on behalf of each institution in the cooperation.
According to the agreement, Philips will provide CBIR with 1.2 million dollars in research funding and send full-time experts to participate in research activity. Simultaneously, Philips will coordinate with development department, department of technology, marketing department, after-sale service department and other departments to provide CBIR with resources to support research biomedical imaging. Additionally, Philips will provide an open development platform for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
Guests visited facilities in CBIR and listened to the research developments of CBIR after the signing ceremony. CBIR Director Professor Chun Yuan gave an introduction covering the goals of the center: “The main research at CBIR will be MRI, but as the center develops, we will construct a multi-modality imaging center including ultrasound, PET and NMR facilities”
The School of Medicine Vice President Yigong Shi, Party`s Committee Vice Secretary Wei Li and the managers from department of medical and health care of Phillips attended the signing ceremony.
