Center for Biomedical Imaging Research (CBIR) in Tsinghua University was founded on June 15th, 2010 as part of the 985 key discipline program in Tsinghua University. CBIR was granted as Beijing Multi-modality Medical Imaging Engineering Research Center by Beijing Science and Technology Committee in 2012

The mission of CBIR is to establish leadership in imaging research in China with worldwide recognition, to provide educational and clinical service to China, Asia, and the world through technological innovations, industrial partnership, multi-disciplinary and international collaborations, and to seamlessly transform basic science and translational research into clinical applications.

Faculty members are international renowned medical imaging scientists and enthusiastic young investigators. Professor league including 5 leading biomedical imaging scientists, plays an unique role for both young investigators’ mentorship and advisory board of research. Philips's on-site scientists further enforce the family.

CBIR has a state-of-the-art Philips Achieva 3.0T TX MR system, three advanced ultrasound systems including iU22xMatrix, Ultrasonix SonixMDP and Verasonics ultrasound. It is becoming a multi-modality imaging center with facilities spanning over image processing software packages, fully access to imaging system, database and professional operation team and technical support.

MRI, Ultrasound and Coil core laboratories provide extensive research platforms focused on cardiovascular MRI technology and its clinical application, brain functional, ultrafast ultrasound imaging and customized coil design. Over 10 projects get awarded from national and local governments, as well as the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Currently, MRI platform provides public service on about 100 projects from Tsinghua and other Universities and institutes nationally.
